Course Description
Students will use a text book, writing journal and other materials the teacher will provide to continue teaching speaking, reading and writing Spanish skills. Homework is assigned to students after each class and posted on Google Classroom. Teacher will perform oral evaluations weekly to assess the student’s progress.
Vocabulary-content: Students will learn new vocabulary and content with each lesson using the text book. They will also learn more vocabulary with the level reading books they will read during class. The vocabulary-content will include: the alphabet, in the classroom, what does it mean? What is your name? introductions, numbers, ordinal numbers, how is the weather? Dates, community, “to wear “(llevar puesto), “to put on” (ponerse), “to play” (jugar, tocar), sports, time, “who” (? quien?), “where” (?donde?), “when” (?cuando?), “which” (?cual?), “how much” (?cuanto?), “how? And why?” (?como? y ?por que?).
Grammar: The students will learn pronouns, practice with pronouns, the gender of nouns, plural mounds, articles, adjectives, possession, conjugating “ar” “ir” “er” verbs, “to be” (estar) verb, prepositions, gerunds, “to be” (ser) verb, more uses of “ser” o “estar,” other uses of “tener” “to have to” (tener que, hay que), the present progressive, the infinitive and the imperative verb.
Writing: The students will write short stories describing themselves. They will write about things they like and things they don’t like. They will also write paragraphs about different topics such holidays, things they want to do. They will also write summaries of books we read in class. They will also translate words and sentences from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English.
Reading: Students will read pages from their text book. They will also read fiction and nonfiction level books in class to develop their reading skills and teacher will ask questions to assess reading comprehension.
Speaking: Students will have an opportunity to communicate with the teacher and classmates in class to practice Spanish oral language development. Teacher will assess the student’s pronunciation and model the correct way to say the words.
